According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, if your waist is over 37 inches, you’re at an increased risk of heart disease. No one food group is responsible for your belly fat. Carbs don't make you fat, nor do fats. Overconsuming calories causes this weight gain, and there is no magic food or drink that will melt belly fat. I use a high-protein, high-veggie diet to lose weight, but that’s not because protein or veggies break down belly fat; it’s because it allows you to eat a more food volume and feel full with fewer calories. If you want to lose belly fat, being in a calorie deficit isn’t enough, as you can lose fat and muscle. Eating high protein helps protect your muscle mass, as does resistance training. You need to work your whole body, including your legs and doing extra ab work won’t reduce the size of your belly any faster.
