Propecia (finasteride) is commonly given to treat male pattern baldness and, I gotta admit, it works! About 80% of men report increased hair growth after taking propecia. Side effects are not common (4% of men) BUT some of them can persist even after stopping the medication. Post-finasteride syndrome is not entirely understood. Topical finasteride may be a safer option (although some does get absorbed). If you're not willing to take the risk, Minoxidil is safe and works (almost) as well.
