https://neurologyofcannabis.com Hello, friends and colleagues. Bipolar disorder is a condition fraught with problems including substance use disorder. Many patients with bipolar disease often use substances such as cannabis or alcohol as a way to self-medicate. It’s important to determine whether or not cannabis use is contributing to their pathology, or actually helping them. It turns out that most patients that are using cannabis that also have bipolar disorder do not experience more frequent manic episodes as a result of cannabis use. Furthermore, when they’re in a depressive phase, cannabis can also act as an antidepressant. In this complicated combination of problems, we have to determine if there is cannabis use disorder, in addition to bipolar, or whether or not the patient is actually self-medicating effectively. If you would like to discuss this issue with me personally, please call or email Neurology of Cannabis.
